Griffin's notes: It is a rather heavy-handed motif that Aldric becomes Zephaniah's champion at various points of their lives: at Cambridge as we read earlier, here in this tournament, and later in Princess Celandine's war. For those interested in examining the parallels in each instance, as well as their formative influences on modern Jardinian literature, I have enclosed my Spring 2018 syllabus with the appropriate reading materials. They go far more in-depth on the subject than in Ru's modernization.
